On Saturday, November 23rd, Politecnico di Milano held an open Robotic Day. The event that every year attracts the attention of adults and kids on new developments in robotics and its fields of application. SMARTsurg framework presented to adults and kids by robotics researchers of Politecnico di Milano. Dissemination held in new Leonardo Robotics Labs.

With special Session 110, held on 27 September 2019 afternoon at MEDICON conference 2019 Coimbra, Portugal, the consortium of SMARTsurg H2020 EU project, presented the advancement so far to the biomedical engineering community.

Smart robotic assistant for minimally invasive surgery: the SMARTsurg project experience - Special Session @ MEDICON 2019

The main vision of the SMARTsurg project is to enable complex minimally invasive surgical operations by developing a novel robotic platform for assisting the surgeon in such tasks, to reduce the surgeon’s cognitive load related to the system’s operation, to shorten training time and deliver accuracy, safety, reduce procedure time and expanded applicability. The chosen application scenarios are:

• Orthopedic surgery
• Urology
• Cardiac surgery

The 6th SMARTsurg plenary meeting was held in Marseille on 10-11 July 2019.

The partners presented the status of each task and had interactive discussions to agree on the final steps of the project.
